The working principle of the hydraulic retarder: The retarder rotor rotates with the output shaft of the gearbox, while the guide wheel does not move. When the retarder is filled with oil, the rotor rotating with the output shaft acts on the oil with a momentum moment M1, driving the oil to rotate around the axis. At the same time, the oil rotates along the inner circulation circle of the blade motion and throws the guide wheel. That is, the oil has two directions of motion: "revolution" around the axial direction and "rotation" around the radial direction. When the oil throws off the guide wheel, the "revolution" of the oil has an impact on the guide wheel blades, and the momentum moment M1 of the rotor acting on the oil is transmitted to the guide wheel blades. At the same time, the fixed guide wheel blades also produce a reverse momentum moment M2 on the oil. When the oil flows out of the stator wheel and then flows into the rotor, it also transfers M2 to the rotor, forming a resistance moment to the rotor, hindering the rotation of the rotor, thereby achieving the deceleration effect of the vehicle. Since the oil does not receive any other additional external force during the circulation flow, according to the principle of mechanical balance, the relationship between the momentum moment of the oil throwing away the guide wheel and the flow rotor is M1=-M2. The energy of the rotor rotation is converted into heat by the damping effect of the oil, and is dissipated into the air through the radiator.
