Cylinder Head Gasket
Engine cylinder head gasket, referred to as cylinder gasket, is an elastic sealing element placed between the cylinder block and cylinder head. Since the cylinder block and cylinder head cannot be absolutely flat, a cylinder head gasket is required to prevent high-pressure gas, lubricating oil and cooling water from escaping between them. Engine cylinder head gasket There are two types of cylinder head gasket: ① Metal asbestos pads use asbestos as the base and are covered with copper or steel sheets. Some use braided steel wire or rolled-hole steel plates as the skeleton, and some add metal rings around the cylinder holes to increase strength. The advantage is that the price is lower, but the strength is weaker. Because asbestos is carcinogenic to the human body, its use has been stopped in developed countries. ② The metal gasket is made of a single piece of smooth steel plate, with elastic ridges at the sealing area, and is sealed by the elasticity of the ridges and the action of heat-resistant sealant. It has been widely used abroad. The advantages are high strength and good sealing effect, but the cost is higher.

The role of the cylinder head gasket:
1. The cylinder gasket is the seal between the top surface of the body and the bottom surface of the cylinder head. Its function is to keep the cylinder seal airtight, and keep the coolant and engine oil flowing from the body to the cylinder head from leaking. The cylinder head gasket bears the pressure caused by tightening the cylinder head bolts, and is subjected to the high temperature and high pressure of the combustion gas in the cylinder, as well as the corrosion of engine oil and coolant;
2. The cylinder head gasket should have sufficient strength and be resistant to pressure, heat and corrosion. In addition, a certain degree of elasticity is required to compensate for the roughness and unevenness of the top surface of the body and the bottom surface of the cylinder head, as well as the deformation of the cylinder head caused by the gas force when the engine is working;
3. According to the different materials used, cylinder gaskets can be divided into metal asbestos gaskets, metal composite gaskets and all-metal gaskets. Both the metal composite liner and the all-metal liner are asbestos-free cylinder liners. Because there is no asbestos interlayer, the generation of air bags in the liner can be eliminated and industrial pollution can be reduced. This is the current development direction.
Matters needing attention in the replacement of the cylinder head gasket are as follows:
Before assembly, pay attention to check whether the surface is smooth. Under normal circumstances, there should be no defects such as scratches, depressions, wrinkles, and deformations. When installing, align the positioning pin holes of the cylinder gasket with the positioning pins on the cylinder block. Note that the eight bolt holes and water holes on the cylinder gasket should completely match and communicate with the corresponding holes on the cylinder body, and the flanging of the retainer at the cylinder mouth should face upward. If the cylinder gasket is installed upside down, all the holes will not coincide, about 1.5mm off. Note that the old gasket should not be interchanged front and back, so as not to damage the seal of the cylinder gasket. After the cylinder gasket is disassembled, it can still be used if it is intact. Dip the threaded part in engine oil before assembling the cylinder head bolts, and then install and screw them in, so as to exert the effective tightening effect of the bolts. The tightening torque of the cylinder head bolts is 167-196N"m, and the torque wrench is used to tighten it symmetrically and smoothly in two steps from the center to both sides.
